CIRENCESTER residents who want a say in how the town should celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee in June are urged to attend a public meeting next week.
A working party of town councillors, charity and society workers and other interested parties has been planning a programme of events for the four-day celebration since January.
A provisional programme already includes:
Saturday, June 1 - A charity tea party at St Michael's Field with stalls and entertainments and a ticket-only tea in the adjacent Bingham Hall for town charities; A disco for 12 to 15 year olds at the Corn Hall.
Sunday, June 2 - The finals of a series of sporting events involving the 30 town sports clubs already invited and others that expressed an interest; An ecumenical service at the parish church.
Monday, June 4 - A procession of classic cars from the lifetime of the Queen; Carnival floats; A three-hour peel of bells from the church; A torch-lit procession from street parties across the town to the Abbey Grounds for a massive fireworks display over the lake.
The public meeting will be held from 7pm on Tuesday, February 26 at the Bingham House Council Chamber, 1 Dyer Street, Cirencester.
