NORTH Somerset came to Deer Park on Saturday full of high spirits, following their win over league leaders Chippenham. Cirencester though were only too keen to rain on their parade.
For the first 15 minutes the N. Somerset goal was under siege. Cirencester attacked relentlessly with crisp passing and moving that carried the ball from their own half into the Somerset D and back again.
It was only through some stout defensive play and good goalkeeping, not to mention some wayward shooting that Cirencester weren't 5-0 up by half time.
The score only stretched to 1-0 in Cirencester's favour at the break after some fantastic running by Tim Harris drew half the Somerset defence and the goalkeeper before his neat squared pass gave Jamie Blackburn time and opportunity to put the home team ahead on 12 minutes.
The second period started just as brightly and after 5 minutes Cirencester were 2-0 ahead after Jonny Owen was allowed to run at their defence and all the way into the D.
His firmly hit shot was helped on its way at the left hand post by Chris Thompson for Cirencester's second.
The pace of the game told on Cirencester's legs and with about 8 minutes to go N. Somerset sneaked in for a late consolation goal.
Next week's fixture: Bristol 2nd XI vs. Cirencester 3rd XI (away)
