South West 2 East Stow 1sts 15pts, Olney 15
WITH Stow having their best chance of recording a first league win of the season, their frustrations could well be understood when Saturdays home match finished in an unlikely draw.
Although the visitors from Olney opened the scoring within five minutes with a penalty, Stow were able to take firm control of the first half.
With their lineout functioning well and the forwards back to their dominant form, there was plenty of chances to run the ball.
From a lineout, Barry Clark took the ball blind and powered over for a try. Stow could have extended their lead but missed a couple of penalties.
However, from an Olney 22 kick-off, Sean Millard collected the ball well and Clark took possession to score his second try under the posts.
Mat Watts added the converted and, at the break, Stow deservedly led by 12 points to three.
But Olney got back into the game in the second half by scoring a very soft early try.
They then ran a penalty and scored a converted try to ease themselves ahead.
The hosts continued to pile on the pressure, but just could not make the all-important break through.
With five minutes remaining, it looked likely to be another one of those days bad days for Stow.
Fortunately, Mat Watts came to their rescue with a well taken dropped goal from a difficult angle to five the local side a share of the spoils.
This Saturday, Stow are set to travel to Salisbury.
