Charlton Kings 145 all out

Cirencester 150-3

A lethal spell of bowling by Ross Jeffels and a fine all-round performance by Jock Jamieson-Black saw the Town side home with 20 overs to spare.

It was an excellent display by a side shorn of several first team regulars. With just two games to go against lowly Oldlands and Birdlip the Town look certain to clinch second place behind unbeaten Cheltenham Civil Service.

Stand-in captain Matt Carter won the toss and elected to field and his decision soon paid dividends as Jeffels ripped out the first four wickets, before going on to went on to finish with 4-8 from nine overs, six of them maidens.

Home opener Ellis briefly steadied the ship in partnership with Mitchell, before Billy Breen induced him to drag a ball on to his stumps on 30 and a further collapse ensued.

Breen grabbed his second wicket by bowling Yearp and Simon Rowe had Arkell caught by Jono Jamieson-Black, before the latter’s brother Jock entered the attack to have Mitchell caught for 41 with the total barely past 100.

The left-arm spinner then took his second wicket – brother Jono taking his fourth catch of the innings – before a stubborn last-wicket stand between Edwards (24no) and Russell (19) took the final total to 145.

Jock bowled the latter with nine balls remaining to finish with 3-29.

In reply, Jeffels (18) and fellow opener Ben Moody carved out a half-century partnership within the first eight overs.

Town then suffered a brief stumble losing two more wickets on 56 as Jamie Jamieson-Black was bowled by Arkell and Moody fell in similar fashion to Rideout having hit eight fours in his 36.

Momentarily Charlton Kings were back in the contest, but the Jamieson-Black family were having none of it as Jock was joined by youngest brother Jono in a stand which settled the issue.

Jock was in big-hitting mood, smashing three sixes in one over to put Rideout out of the attack and he went on to hit three more in an impressive innings of 68 while Jono played the anchor role with an unbeaten 20 as victory was clinched in the 25th over.
