After seniors' captain Clive Bennett and John Davis had gone down in the opening match, Ian Hunter and Mark Woodhead had a resounding 6&5 win.

Gerry Bruton and Mike Staples battled to get a half point while John King and Tony Greatorex had a sound 3&2 win to put Cirencester ahead in the tie. But the next two matches were lost leaving it to John Thurston and Ken Anderson, who had won their away match in May, to do the double and salvage a draw with their 3&2 win.

AN EARLY start was required to make the trip to the beautiful course high on the escarpment at Broadway.

But admiring the view was about all that Cirencester could do.

Their only win came from captain Clive Bennett and Gerald Park in the opening match. The only consolation Cirencester could take was that they had won their home match in May against Broadway by an equally impressive margin.
